144…Witness- Photography by James Nachtwey

by admin ~ Filed under: documentary style, inspiring, travel.

James Nachtwey doesn’t have a blog, just a simple website filled with powerful, moving, disturbing and important images. James has worked as a photographer for decades– documenting wars, conflicts and critical social issues. According to his website, he has worked on extensive photographic essays in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza, Israel, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, South Africa, Russia, Bosnia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Romania, Brazil and the United States.

I cannot personally fathom how it would affect your spirit to have been a firsthand witness to capture all these haunting images, but I am so grateful for James, and photographers like him, who document and report on these crucial events and occurrences. I hope his photography moves you as it did me.

There is a documentary about his work that if you ever get the chance to see you just can’t miss. It still haunts me.
He is an amazing being doing very important work.

Incredibly moving, haunting, shocking, … It’s amazing to live in a society such as ours where we can shut our eyes to things like this and make like they don’t exist. Thanks to James (and others like him) we get a chance to see and feel and maybe even act.
