#98…Heather Mosher

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Heather Mosher works out of NY and NJ and surrounding areas, but my favorite photos on her site and blog are the ones she makes in Tribeca in NYC. The textures and depth and tones in them are just richly luscious and make me want to do more urban photography in my own downtown area. You will love her work and find quite a bit of inspiration here. Enjoy!

#97…Molly Hilton

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Molly Hilton is yet another talented photographer based out of San Diego-and as an aside, I’m amazed at the talent there, I’ve featured a lot of San Diego photogs, perhaps the lovely weather gives you more time to practice? ;)

Anyway, the thing I love about Molly’s work on her site and blog is that she seems to somehow capture a child’s true essence, giving us a brief look into who they really are. Her work with children, especially her black and whites, are just stunning, and I’m going to do something I rarely do, and show you two of my favorites that really connected with me from her site:

I haven’t looked at Molly’s site or blog for a very long time, over a year, but I’m so excited to see the fairly recent launch of her new specialty: Molly Hilton Baby! Molly does fabulous work with babies, she really has a true gift. I’ve been long considering a separate site and pricing structure for newborns and Molly has done it and done it beautifully. Enjoy!

#96…Angela Weedon

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Angela Weedon is based out of Dallas, TX, where she works with her husband Matt alongside her-helping with the business side and “toddler wrangling” as she calls it. :) Her work is amazing, and from viewing her site and her blog, I get such a sense of talent, and a textbook view of what a well established & grounded upscale photography business should look like.

I will try to keep this mini-rant small, but seeing how well Angela & her team work together is so evident from her online presence–it makes it all the more clear to me that the thousands of new “shoot & burn” photographers cropping up are really hurting customers. You won’t get service and quality from them like you will from a class act like Weedon Photography. It makes me wish there were some kind of guidelines to calling yourself a photographer. A license or something… because clients are getting burned, and it is hurting the name of good photographers all over the country.

Ok, must put away the soapbox.

Angela’s images are stunning, from studio to outdoors, newborn to families; lovely b&w images, beautiful color-I can’t see anything she can’t do. Really enjoyed her work and site and blog. Hope you will to~

#95…Kelley Ryden

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

I’ve found a new favorite inspiration for newborn photography! Kelley Ryden has absolutely enchanting images of newborns, great tones and clarity and posing. You can tell that this is truly Kelley’s niche. Her photographs of toddlers are awesome too…but the newborns… exquisite. Nothing more to say - just top notch. The new mom’s of Omaha, NE better get her while she is still so cheap, because she is extremely talented. Find her blog here and her site here. (make sure you don’t miss her splash page image of the newborn twins…one of my favorite twins images ever!)

Enjoy!

#93…Mary Hanson

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I have had lots and lots of email from people saying that I should feature *my* very own photography blog. So, I decided to do it, with one little twist-YOU–my Blogs of Photogs readers– get to review MY work on my blog and tell me via a comment what you love (or hate…but gosh-be constructive!) about my work and blog and photography. Leave the comment here on blogs of photogs and after a few days of comments, you could win a prize!  I’ll put all the names (of those who leave comments) in a hat, have one of my kids pick one, and the winner gets a sterling silver bangle photo bracelet from Deluxe Photo Gifts! So, check out Mary Hanson Photography Blog here and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

#87…Lisa Kelly

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Oh you are going to love this one… Lisa Kelly is both a terrifically gifted photographer, plus a congenial blog writer (and I’m a sucker for Australian lingo.)

When I reviewed her blog before going on vacation, she was just dealing with an injury to her neck or arm, so I am so hopeful she is better and back to showcasing more of her tremendously wonderful work. Her newborn work is probably my favorite, but her work with children is also stunning. I hope you are well soon Lisa!

Lisa works out of Canberra, ACT, Australia, and her blog is one I will be definitely subscribing to. Enjoy!

#84…Karen Carey

Friday, July 25th, 2008

Karen Carey is a highly gifted photographer who I can truly call a fine artist, working outside of Philadelphia, PA. Karen’s blog looks like it might have had a re-do lately, as a couple of the links (workshop) are not yet functional. Don’t let that stop you from spending some time on her blog and site, soaking up her extraordinary talent and learning from her wealth of experience.  I met Karen last January, at the one and only photography workshop I have ever gone to-her Think. Create. Record. Workshop,. I’m not a “workshop person” but I learned a lot from Karen, and from the workshop, laughed a heck of a lot, and really came away with a greater perspective on my own photography work that I still find myself ruminating about and implementing tips from, in my portrait sessions now.

Karen showed us a sneak peek in January from her work with Flashes of Hope - an awe-inspiring and life changing project that focuses on capturing powerful portraits of kids fighting cancer and other diseases. Truly something I won’t forget.

Enjoy Karen’s work!

#78…bsquared photography

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

This is such a fun blog, with so much to like! Perfect little break from getting things ready for the 4th of July here in beautiful Minneapolis.

Ok, first thing, and I absolutely have to say this, and I do not personally know Beth of bsquared photography, so I have no stake in saying this: Beth you are RIDICULOUSLY under priced. There are so many stellar images on this blog, and the portrait work, beach work and family sessions are so much better than SO many of the blogs I look at… I really have to just yell at you for a minute about your pricing. WAY UNDER PRICED!!!

There, that is out of the way…(and if any of you readers agree with me, please leave a comment here to prove my point…)

Ok… so, what else do I love? I love the frequent updates, the huge size of the images on the blog, (especially love that b&w image of the baby on the wooden bridge…) the band photos are great, (and if you have ever done any band photography in darkly lit clubs, you know how good these are!) and the fun, affable, cool-mom-next-door tone of her writing. There are a couple less than perfect images if you delve way back, but you can really see amazing growth, talent and beauty in her work. If she was one of the photographers I have mentored though, I’d be on her about that pricing. :)

-enjoy!

#75…Daveen

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Daveen photography is located in the Salem, Oregon area. I have to make a confession before I begin writing about her blog. I have become prejudiced towards wordpress blogs, and others, that showcase large images. I get tons of requests to review photographers blogs, and I’m not kidding, I read 15+ blogs a day looking for the one to review that day, and the typepad and blogger ones with their teeny tiny thumbnail sized images just. dont. inspire. me. at. all.

I’m sorry. I am now officially a blog snob. I will try to overcome it and review some magnificent imagery on a small image blog soon. I promise. Really. (do I have to??) Ok.

Now, back to Daveen….

sigh…

Lovely images, her tones, slightly vintage in feel, and even the angles and perspective, are just so soothing and wonderful. I read in her blog profile that she has been in business just slightly over two years, and I would never have guessed it. Her images are lovely, processing just divine, and apparently she only gets gorgeous subjects to work with (half kidding) Enjoy her blog…

#74…Stylized Portraiture

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Stylized Portraiture is the dynamic duo of Frankie Wylie & Heather Lickliter. They both have fabulously distinctive styles, but each SO different in their looks they achieve. I think you will really enjoy their blog, its like a two ‘fer one! :) They have so much info on their blog, (compiled from so many sources, some of which I have previously reviewed on the blog) for current or future customers, it is really brilliant. Its really well laid out to answer a lot of questions for clients and prescreen. I am impressed, and that is not so easy. ;) They serve Athens and North Georgia.

Enjoy!
