#109…Barefoot Photo-Connie Groah

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Connie Groah of Barefoot Photo (blog is here) is located in Annapolis, Maryland. I can’t decide which is my favorite age group from her work–her newborn work is beautiful, her family shots have such a warm, cozy connection too, but I guess probably her kids shots-in the 2-5 age range are my favorite. She seems to excell at capturing the wonder and excitement of that age range especially well. Connie’s blog features lots of her delightfully gorgeous work, as well as showing some from her trip back to San Diego where she used to live with her husband. Which brings me to her husband, and the fact that this blog review is a “two-fer” for you readers!

Connie’s husband Shane has a blog,

Dut Duts & GoNuts, which is so hilariously funny that if this man does not get a paying job as a writer soon I will lose my faith in the literary community. Truly, it is actual laugh out loud funny– pee your pants funny. It is even “I get excited when I see an email from feedburner about it funny.” Not to overshadow Connie’s beautiful photography, but you must check out the talent from both of these two, just amazing, and a bit unfair to have all that talent housed together. :) Their boys will have every funny life moment and image chronicled for sure!

Enjoy!

#99…Shannon Holden

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Shannon Holden’s blog and site feature photographs that just seem to glow from within. The quality of light is phenomenal, she does such a breathtaking job of capturing the light, and almost wrapping it around her subjects. After looking over her whole blog and site, I finally read a bit about her, and found that we share some similarities in that we both lost our beloved moms to cancer. I have to think that our mothers can see our love for them shining through, in each of our work, capturing beautiful images for others. Life does go by in a blink. Hugs from one who knows your loss Shannon.

Anyway, I know you will enjoy her work, it is truly superb!

Mary

Ps:

On a completely unrelated side note: I’m sure most of my readers don’t know this, but for each blog I review, I have probably looked at over 15-20 blogs that day before I find one that I want to review. Its a hugely time consuming process, even before you add in the moderating comments, the 30+ emails I get each week asking to be reviewed, or the emails wondering why I haven’t gotten to their blog yet, or suggesting a friends blog, or asking me to give them photography tips, or wondering what are the requirements to be featured, etc, etc. You get the picture. Anyway,  during this busy holiday portrait season especially, I’m really hoping that I have time to post a few reviews a week, and I just wanted to ask for my readers patience in remembering that I’m a full time photographer as well, and a mom to three kids, and overly politically active, and some of the recent emails I’ve gotten are rather unkind. I really hope that this blog is a source of knowledge and inspiration to everyone who reads it–I love doing it and am so very grateful for those who are reading. :)

best,

Mary

#93…Mary Hanson

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I have had lots and lots of email from people saying that I should feature *my* very own photography blog. So, I decided to do it, with one little twist-YOU–my Blogs of Photogs readers– get to review MY work on my blog and tell me via a comment what you love (or hate…but gosh-be constructive!) about my work and blog and photography. Leave the comment here on blogs of photogs and after a few days of comments, you could win a prize!  I’ll put all the names (of those who leave comments) in a hat, have one of my kids pick one, and the winner gets a sterling silver bangle photo bracelet from Deluxe Photo Gifts! So, check out Mary Hanson Photography Blog here and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

#56…Jeanette LeBlanc

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Jeanette has two blogs, following my bliss to showcase her beautiful photos, which she posts to less often than I’d like to see. :) (hint hint, post more! now.) And crunchy on the inside, to showcase her words, which are magical and sublime, and will make you want to add both blogs to your reader or feedburner. You can also peek at more work on her flickr.
As I read through, and looked at her images, I find myself smirking. Here is this shockingly talented woman who has a sidebar of “who she wants to be when she grows up” listing many other talented photographers whom she admires. Hate to break it to you Jeanette, but you are as good as or better than quite a few of them. And, you seem so insightful and sagacious… let it out through your camera more often and *bam* you will be there.
Hope you all enjoy her work as much as I did!

#31..birth photography by Lynsey Stone

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Lynsey Stone does some really neat birth photography (often home-births) in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. I’ve always thought it would be such a neat sub-specialty to work with a midwife practice and photograph home births. Her photos are very tasteful and subdued, not showing any of the actual birth, so if you are a squeamish person, don’t be worried to look! ;) What a truly amazing thing to do, capture the first moments, the first breaths! Here blog is here and her site is here.
