#96…Angela Weedon

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Angela Weedon is based out of Dallas, TX, where she works with her husband Matt alongside her-helping with the business side and “toddler wrangling” as she calls it. :) Her work is amazing, and from viewing her site and her blog, I get such a sense of talent, and a textbook view of what a well established & grounded upscale photography business should look like.

I will try to keep this mini-rant small, but seeing how well Angela & her team work together is so evident from her online presence–it makes it all the more clear to me that the thousands of new “shoot & burn” photographers cropping up are really hurting customers. You won’t get service and quality from them like you will from a class act like Weedon Photography. It makes me wish there were some kind of guidelines to calling yourself a photographer. A license or something… because clients are getting burned, and it is hurting the name of good photographers all over the country.

Ok, must put away the soapbox.

Angela’s images are stunning, from studio to outdoors, newborn to families; lovely b&w images, beautiful color-I can’t see anything she can’t do. Really enjoyed her work and site and blog. Hope you will to~

#93…Mary Hanson

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I have had lots and lots of email from people saying that I should feature *my* very own photography blog. So, I decided to do it, with one little twist-YOU–my Blogs of Photogs readers– get to review MY work on my blog and tell me via a comment what you love (or hate…but gosh-be constructive!) about my work and blog and photography. Leave the comment here on blogs of photogs and after a few days of comments, you could win a prize!  I’ll put all the names (of those who leave comments) in a hat, have one of my kids pick one, and the winner gets a sterling silver bangle photo bracelet from Deluxe Photo Gifts! So, check out Mary Hanson Photography Blog here and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

#89…Carey Schumacher-Barefoot Memories

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I’m guessing that many of my readers who are photographers have heard of Carey of Barefoot Memories, but just in case there are a few of you out there who haven’t… you’ll be glad now that you did. Quite simply, Carey *is* beach family photography in Southern California. Her simple and classic style of shooting is one that is often imitated, but not so often replicated. Her brand is well known, she is brilliant at marketing (in fact- I still owe her a thank you for being so nice a few years back when I called her up and asked if I could borrow her holiday slideshow/year in review idea… which I now see on so many sites! Thanks Carey!)  and she is becoming quite well known on the photography speaker circuit as well. Carey is one of the few photographers whom I have seen who has made the “CD route” work for her and her clients. And of course, last but never least,  her photography is marvelous, she is just a master at what she does. Enjoy her work here on her blog, or here on her main site.

On another note, after my two weeks away, I have been swamped with sessions myself, so please forgive the delay in updating blogs of photogs. I will post more often, so check back soon, or subscribe up top!

#79…Gina Lee Photography

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Gina Lee Photography has a beautiful fresh style that just says “summer” to me. She is located in southern California, and most of her photos look like they just jumped off the pages of Pottery Barn Kids… that saturated bright look that has such a fun commercial feel. Love her family shots, her use of sun flare, her session with the chalk board (too cute!) and the fusion of her own life interspersed within the blog, complete with her curly headed little cutie getting a hair cut. Enjoy the inspiration!

#78…bsquared photography

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

This is such a fun blog, with so much to like! Perfect little break from getting things ready for the 4th of July here in beautiful Minneapolis.

Ok, first thing, and I absolutely have to say this, and I do not personally know Beth of bsquared photography, so I have no stake in saying this: Beth you are RIDICULOUSLY under priced. There are so many stellar images on this blog, and the portrait work, beach work and family sessions are so much better than SO many of the blogs I look at… I really have to just yell at you for a minute about your pricing. WAY UNDER PRICED!!!

There, that is out of the way…(and if any of you readers agree with me, please leave a comment here to prove my point…)

Ok… so, what else do I love? I love the frequent updates, the huge size of the images on the blog, (especially love that b&w image of the baby on the wooden bridge…) the band photos are great, (and if you have ever done any band photography in darkly lit clubs, you know how good these are!) and the fun, affable, cool-mom-next-door tone of her writing. There are a couple less than perfect images if you delve way back, but you can really see amazing growth, talent and beauty in her work. If she was one of the photographers I have mentored though, I’d be on her about that pricing. :)

-enjoy!

#74…Stylized Portraiture

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Stylized Portraiture is the dynamic duo of Frankie Wylie & Heather Lickliter. They both have fabulously distinctive styles, but each SO different in their looks they achieve. I think you will really enjoy their blog, its like a two ‘fer one! :) They have so much info on their blog, (compiled from so many sources, some of which I have previously reviewed on the blog) for current or future customers, it is really brilliant. Its really well laid out to answer a lot of questions for clients and prescreen. I am impressed, and that is not so easy. ;) They serve Athens and North Georgia.

Enjoy!

#60…Janine Memon Dietz

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

I’m just in love with the luminous fanciful photography of Janine at Saving Grace Photography. Her blog showcases some of the best work I’ve seen in quite awhile, and as you can imagine, I look at a lot of blogs. :)

Her photos have a translucent clarity that just glows… really really elegant and beautiful and her connections with her subjects are so captivating. I’m sure you won’t hear this from your clients Janine, so let me be the one to whisper it: you are way underpriced. :)

Enjoy!

#56…Jeanette LeBlanc

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Jeanette has two blogs, following my bliss to showcase her beautiful photos, which she posts to less often than I’d like to see. :) (hint hint, post more! now.) And crunchy on the inside, to showcase her words, which are magical and sublime, and will make you want to add both blogs to your reader or feedburner. You can also peek at more work on her flickr.
As I read through, and looked at her images, I find myself smirking. Here is this shockingly talented woman who has a sidebar of “who she wants to be when she grows up” listing many other talented photographers whom she admires. Hate to break it to you Jeanette, but you are as good as or better than quite a few of them. And, you seem so insightful and sagacious… let it out through your camera more often and *bam* you will be there.
Hope you all enjoy her work as much as I did!

#49…Tara Whitney

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Up today is Tara Whitney’s Blog. (edited to add: I had the link typed wrong, so please refresh if you are getting to a blogspot wrong page. Tara’s blog is www.tarawhitney.typepad.com thanks for the catch melanie!) Tara lives down in sunny and beautiful Orange County, CA. I enjoyed her outdoor photos tremendously, as we are still stuck in suspended winter here in MN (see my blog for a snow photo from yesterday if you like…) Tara’s main website appears to be undergoing a facelift or some work at the moment, but I expect it will be back up soon, and you can see it here.
The photos on Tara’s blog exhibit an exuberance and sparkle that I really admire. I am particularly drawn to her family shoots. They have a relaxed and comfortable quality that I see so many photographers strive for and miss. Its a true talent to make a family feel at ease and laid-back while you are also working to get great photos. I have a feeling that Tara is as un-pretentious as she appears in her blog, photos of her, and her writings. Hope you enjoy her work too.

#2 Kenneth DeBoe, of Deboe Studios!

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Ken has a great blog, a nice mix of gorgeous color, and warm toned b&w’s. I also like how he gives us a slice of *his* life in the blog, while still keeping it about the photos. My only beef is that I have NO idea where he is located geographically, from either the site or the blog! Might want to add that info Ken! :) Check out his work at: http://www.deboestudios.com/blog/

Thanks!
