#156…Gina Maxine

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

I’m not sure how I stumbled across Gina Maxine, it may have been on Flickr, or someone emailed me about her, I don’t recall, but however I found her, I am *so* glad I did. I get the feeling she is relatively new to the photography business world(I could be wrong, but her archives don’t go back very far…) which makes me think this is someone to watch for sure, especially if my hunch is correct. The current 2nd photo on her blog (little miss E) is just breathtaking- talk about waiting for the perfect moment and capturing it exquisitely. Gina works out of Central CA, primarily with babies and smaller children, with a few seniors mixed in and a lot of great commercial work. There is something ethereal and delicate about some of her shots that just give them such a lovely fine art flair. Enjoy!

ps, not much change on my cousin with serious complications from H1N1, thanks for the kind words, thoughts and prayers, I will update on my personal twitter when there is much of anything to report.

#146…No Traces

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Bob Smith of No Traces has one of the largest online portfolio’s of amazing work that I’ve reviewed on Blogs of Photogs. Where to start… well you can go to his photoblog to view a singular image with a quote or lyrics or small writing, or read his blog to catch up on his thoughts, or view his flickr stream (my faves are in his “one’s I like” stream here…)

Bob’s passion for photography & life and his artistry and documentary style were just a wonderful place for me to get lost in. So, get a big cup of coffee and sit down and be entralled.

Enjoy!

#104…The Life of a Photograph by Sam Abell

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

by Sam Abell

I was fortunate to get an advance copy of The Life of a Photograph by Sam Abell to review before it’s release today. In this lovely coffee-table style book, Sam, a photographer for National Geographic, shares 200 of his amazing images taken over the last 40 years. This is a book that you will gain inspiration from each time you open it, it really is that amazing. My favorites were the “two views of a ___” where oppposing pages show two different photographs of the same thing, either a closeup and a wide view, or a different angle, or the difference between the same place with time between. The limited accompanying text strikes the perfect balance, explaining or adding to when necessary, and letting the photos do the talking when that is enough.  There were so many photos that moved me and made me go back to look at them over and over-

Anyway, the book is available starting today (link from Amazon up in first line), and I highly recommend this beautiful work of art. Hope you all enjoy this slight break from digital into the world of print.

#63…Myla Kent

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

The blog of Myla Kent features a enchanting mix of quotes, snippets of writings and poetry, paired with purely exquiste images with an undeniable documentary style. I know so many photographers say they are “photojournalistic style” or “documentary style”, (often a code word for “I don’t know how to pose”–right KC? LOL) but much if Myla’s work is what I consider documentary style. Whether it is people on the street, or photos around her hometown near Seattle, WA, the images are lovely, classic and full of interest throughout. I know you will enjoy her work…

#56…Jeanette LeBlanc

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

Jeanette has two blogs, following my bliss to showcase her beautiful photos, which she posts to less often than I’d like to see. :) (hint hint, post more! now.) And crunchy on the inside, to showcase her words, which are magical and sublime, and will make you want to add both blogs to your reader or feedburner. You can also peek at more work on her flickr.
As I read through, and looked at her images, I find myself smirking. Here is this shockingly talented woman who has a sidebar of “who she wants to be when she grows up” listing many other talented photographers whom she admires. Hate to break it to you Jeanette, but you are as good as or better than quite a few of them. And, you seem so insightful and sagacious… let it out through your camera more often and *bam* you will be there.
Hope you all enjoy her work as much as I did!
