#32…Sheye Rosemeyer Photography

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

I know there are many photographers who have heard pieces of Sheye’s story. Well, really of Ava’s story. Superprincess Ava. Who has touched so many across the world. If you don’t know about it… go here to read about Ava’s rule and share the postcard with others you know.

Then, visit Sheye’s blog, see her beautiful photography and words, and you will be changed. By the palpable loss and beauty.
I have not visited her blog in a long time. But as I read it this morning, I was again in tears. Sheye and her husband have an indomitable spirit and they continue to amaze me with their strength. Keep their family in your thoughts, and I’ll end my thoughts here and share a quote from Sheye’s blog that we should all remember each day: ~Mary
“What has become clear to me though is that you can plan and hope all you want, you can imagine and presume and expect life to go a certain way but really, there is no watertight guarantee. All the days are “normal”. The happy ones, the sick ones, the bored ones, the tragic ones. I am no expert, I have less clarity than the average person but what I have found, because of One Normal Day, is this:
Live each day, every single day, with the understanding that one does not necessarily lead into the other. Hug your family. Tight. Put aside What Does Not Matter. Tomorrow could be a completely new kind of normal.”

#31..birth photography by Lynsey Stone

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Lynsey Stone does some really neat birth photography (often home-births) in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. I’ve always thought it would be such a neat sub-specialty to work with a midwife practice and photograph home births. Her photos are very tasteful and subdued, not showing any of the actual birth, so if you are a squeamish person, don’t be worried to look! ;) What a truly amazing thing to do, capture the first moments, the first breaths! Here blog is here and her site is here.

#30..Hans Vandevorst

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Yeah, I’m breaking the rules again. No blog.

But oh my goodness… the photographs on this site.
Meet Hans Van de Vorst… his site is here. He is in The Netherlands. (and you can find him on flickr too.)
I love how the music fits the mood of each different gallery… they are so inspiring and beautiful.
(and I will only mention this once on the blog, and never again: hope you all are respecting copyright with music the same as you’d want with your photos; ie hope these songs are permission granted for use…)
And I can’t decide which I like more–the photos of the tuscany wedding or the dutch ones… oh wow… I have to go look at them again. Just amazing. Amazing.
~Enjoy-I know you will.

#29…Jackie Cooper

Monday, January 28th, 2008

I’m back to the blog with Jackie Cooper….

Jackie is a photographer in Sydney, Australia. Her blog is just a rich visual heaven of texture and light and shadow. I saw a movie a few weeks back with my children; The Water Horse. The movie was great, but the textures and scenery and everything were just a visual feast. Same thing with Jackie’s blog. Just yummy…
You can find her blog here and her site here.

ps–as I mentioned, I was at a workshop this weekend in Philadelphia, PA. It was given by Karen Carey, and it was great! You can find info at her blog here. She has some upcoming dates that she will open up to registration soon. Highly recommend, and I am *not* a workshop person in general.

Out of town… back monday

#28…Sarah Maren Photography

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I stumbled across Sarah in a classic case of digital drifting… following one post to one blog to one flickr account to another blog, and so on and so on. ;) I’m not the only one who does this, right?

Sarah seems to do a ton of weddings and engagement sessions, and she works out of Sacramento, CA primarily. I hope this doesn’t sound snarky at all, but the thing that I love about her work, is that so many of her clients are average looking, but she does a great job of flattering them and really making beautiful images. We all know its a bit easier to photograph the beautiful people of the world, right? Sarah rocks at that, but even tougher, she makes all the “regular people” look great too! She has a ton of slideshows linked to view from her blog, so if you need some inspiration, go to it. You can find her blog here, and her site here
Enjoy!

#27…Finding Joy (Joy Kaminski)

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I love the title of Joy’s photography website: Finding Joy Photography. I know its a play on her name, Joy Kaminski, but I expect it has a triple meaning. It seems like perhaps she set out to find joy: by that I mean, happiness, the joy in life, and to capture that joy beautifully, and instead has found herself: found Joy.  I love that Joy is not afraid to try out lots of different post processing techniques to give her images so many different looks. She has some really amazing vintage photos and I love the warmth of them.

I  hear a bit of accusatory banter from time to time on photography forums about “copying” other’s styles (not in regards to Joy, just in general) and really, hasn’t it all been done before? It has, its all been done before.  (Now I’ll have the Barenaked Ladies song “It’s all been done before” in my head all day, and so will you!)
Our challenge as artists, as photographers, is to keep trying new things, keep it fresh, and keep finding joy in doing so.
Joy works out of  the Chicagoland area, and you can find her blog here and her site here

#26…Red Leaf Studios

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Red Leaf Studios has a fun blog to read. Amy & Richard have some really interesting wedding trivia and info on a recent post, and if you go back a bit, some truly stunning photographs. I’m in love with the winter bridals…just tdf. Red Leaf is out of Regina, Saskatchewan, and you can find the blog here and the site here. The blog is really just a glimpse though. Get a cup of coffee and go view the site. Its amazing. :) The music, the photos, everything. I’m impressed.

#25…Lena Hyde

Monday, January 21st, 2008

In so many ways, Lena is my idol, (lol.) She makes it look way too easy. She’s running this awesomely successful photography studio, doing the Design Aglow thing, and seems to just be having a blast! Maybe you can have your cake and eat it too? ;)

I seriously think that she never sleeps, because she is one busy and talented business woman! You can find her blog here  and her portrait site here…and she works out of Palm Beach, Florida.

#24…Jeff Ascough

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

I’m sharing my favorite wedding photographer: Jeff Ascough. His black and whites are the most stunning things to enjoy. So crisp, clear and perfect. If I ever decided to do weddings, it would be my dream to second shoot with Jeff for awhile and try to soak up some of his amazing talent by osmosis. Yes, I know I’m gushing… but he is a legend. He works all over Europe, but mostly around England, you can find his blog here and his site here.

Enjoy!
