#132…Sakura Photography

Monday, March 30th, 2009

Leslie & Mark Biggar are the team behind Sakura Photography of Vancouver. Their blog features a wide range of photographs, from newborns to engagement sessions (their urban ones rock!), their recent trip to Guatemala and of course, their specialty of weddings. Everything on their site and blog is polished, lovely and professional, but I’m especially fond of their wedding images. They do such a wonderful job of capturing the exuberance and elation of the wedding and reception. Their lighting is sublime and they focus on all the details of getting ready, the ceremony and the party. Simply great work!

#131…Eye in the Sky~Kene Sperry

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Eye in the Sky photography, owned by Kene Sperry, is based out of Big Sky, Montana, but he travels internationally to provide his elegant and artful wedding photography. Kene doesn’t have a blog, so I’m straying from my usual practice of featuring blogs, but his site has several sections where you can enjoy the cinematic artistry of his work~ from his portfolio, to his present moment section featuring weddings of 2008, to his slideshows and book samples. His work is brilliant, and a true archive of his clients special day- I know you will enjoy his site.

Great New Book ~Mothers & Children

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

I love this new book from National Geographic; Mothers & Children. If my mom were still alive, I’d *so* be getting her this for Mother’s Day. Its a charming little hardcover filled with engaging images of mothers and their children from all around the world and also has perfectly fitting and thoughtful quotes and writings about motherhood. This quote from the inside flap really struck me:

“North to South. East to west. You can see it in every photo on every page of Mothers and Children. “Mom” in any language, in every place, means the same: I am here. You are safe. You are loved.”

Isn’t that so true? Enjoy!

#130…Little Moon Photography ~ Amber Scruggs

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Amber Scruggs, owner of Little Moon photography, works out of the NOVA Virginia area, including DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia. Her images on her blog are crisp, clean, and beautiful. She’s got lots of lovely textures and hats to surround all the adorable babies she has recently featured~Amber does a great job of capturing the fresh beauty of newborns, and her other work is lovely as well.I also adore the rounded corners on her photos, that is like the second or third time I’ve seen those and I keep forgetting to find out if it is an action or what. Amber? :)

New project…Exceptional Pro Photographers

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

I want to introduce my readers to my newest project: Exceptional Pro Photographers!

I get dozens of emails every week from consumers around the globe who find Blogs of Photogs and want my input into how to find a photographer in their area. I tell them Blogs of Photogs is a great place to start, but after that word of mouth and google are their next best friends. So, I started Exceptional Pro Photographers (EPP)  to have a place where great photographers from around the world can band together and advertise together to create a premier referral network for clients looking to find a truly exceptional photographer.

For more details, click here to go to the website to see application procedures. I’m also looking for a few people to assist in reviewing applications (small paid position.) And, since Blogs of Photogs only features Exceptional Photographers, (of course!!) through our launch on April 20th, any photographer who has been previously featured on Blogs of Photogs doesn’t need to apply or pay the one time application fee to be listed.

Check it out and leave a comment letting me know what you think.

Thanks!

#129…Enrique Vidal

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Enrique Vidal’s photoblog features a variety of landscape and travel images of astonishing beauty. To navigate through his blog, click the “Previous” link under his name to go back through each prior posting. I also discovered you can click on the photo with the same result. :) Enrique has travelled extensively, partly due to his work as an oceanographer, he has even to travelled to Antarctica, an amazing rarity in the photographic world. His work on his blog is mesmerizing and lovely; I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

#128…Matt Nicolosi

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Spend a few minutes on Matt Nicolosi’s blog, and you will get a feel that he is a fun guy and that he really loves photography. I mean really. ;) I have to admit it took me quite a while of hitting refresh to decide which of his “bio-pics” and header combo’s to use for my little screenshot up there. Every refresh it is a new one, from photos of him as a child, to fun ones like the iPhone eyes above. I love little details like this.

Matt’s blog features a dizzying array of amazing inspiration in color, texture and light. Lots of amazing architecture and travel shots, just beautiful work. Matt should really be working for a travel magazine, or shooting for an online travel or architecture website… really outstanding! Now, if you stopped at his blog, and didn’t make it to his site, you’d think that was it. But no, his site has loads of gorgeous client work too. I’m not sure why there are so few client sessions on his blog (could be a slow time, or too busy, or lazy, like me, lol) but make sure you check out his site too by clicking here. Matt’s work is not to be missed.

I wanted to thank the guys over at Photoshop User TV,specifically Matt Kloskowski, for mentioning Blogs of Photogs on air, (as you can see in the screen capture above.)  Matt mentioned that he found lots of inspiration at Blogs of Photogs. Click here to go to the website and view the clip, he mentions BOP around 27:10. You can even subscribe in iTunes. Great tips and info from the guys behind NAPP. Thanks! ~Mary

#127…Amanda E Photography

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Amanda E’s blog has such stunning and soulful images. I love photographers who aren’t afraid to showcase pensive and thoughtful looks, rather than only the super smiley ones. Most of my favorite images of my own children, {and my own clients images too…}  are the ones with their faces in repose, showing a glimpse into their little souls.

Amanda works out of Peoria, Illinois, and her work is tremendously beautiful. I think the Feb 7 post of the twins is one of my favorite twins shots I’ve seen… just scrumptious! And I also love the newborn one from November 6, great perspective…definitely going to borrow that idea. The colors and textures that she pulls into her work, from baby wraps & cocoons, to blankets and more, really show her graphic design training. Her work is wonderful, and I know you will enjoy it. I’m amazed I’d never heard of her before stumbling upon her a few days ago. (And unrelated to Amanda, but sorry for the posting drought, I was having some mildly annoying computer issues! Ugh!)
